ollo!!!
been ages -again- since i wrote something here. been pretty preoccupied with stuff like work and study and what not. okay. lets cut it to the chase. this time and in shaa Allah time the end i'll be putting this kind of post regularly.
this entry is about a food trip i went to on the 15th of May -dusty records *coughing over dust*- to Holiday Inn, Penang. its a requirement i need to fulfil for my assignment. 1 word peeps! its to die for!! located at Batu Feringghi, Holiday Inn is one of the best hotel to be and i'm sure all of you people would know the place. they have 2 property there which is Resort and Inn. have i mention it was a class trip? yes!! it is a class trip whole 40 plus of us including my lecturer Madam Farina! it was a blast man! it sure did! i'll be sharing photos along the way.
some of us
the view was like to die for!! so awesome!
the experience was nice and cozy, warm and feel very welcomed. we went there for a international dinner buffet. were greeted and exposed about the hotel by the Executive Chef himself -with few other introduction from the HR people- later on we are brought to have a little tour around the hotel mostly on the kitchen as i am a Culinary students. yayy me! this is the picture of him.
Chef Zulkapli Hatim
and a picture of me
enough rambling, lets talk foood!!!!! its a bummer i do not know which would i share. is it the appetizer, main course, or dessert or what.. hmmm... since i put a lot of time on the appetizer and i slightly got a chance to "rape" the main course, i'll be talking about it then.. trust me, i've also commit a sin in making dessert and soup as the main course

yummy number 1
grilled chicken, Asian coleslaw, Seafood Platter
lets talk about that well grilled chicken.. umpphh!! it just perfectly grilled although its a bit dry but the fusion flavor did fused me to the max. marinated with salt, pepper and paprika with addition of homemade smoked BBQ seasoning, the chicken was grilled at perfect temperature to give it nice golden colour to it. it goes well with BBQ sauce -on the top left of the plate- the flavor is heavenly drooling! even i get the drool reminiscing about it.
next is the Asian coleslaw. well to be frank i'm not quite a fan of it. yes it does seems Asian but the flavor is not Asian. it gave me the shock sour taste like you "drank" a vinegar with grated cabbage and carrot blend in with mayo. if the shock flavor was toned down just a little bit i would have 4 to 5 more shooter of it BUT the cabbage and carrot is crunchy. that is what i like about it despite the flavor.
move one to the Seafood Platter. i could not say much about it because it was ready-made you only need to plate it up on a platter and there is a catch. when i took it from the platter its still oily and that means it is well kept and fresh.
yummy number 2!
Tuna Tataki, Baby Octopus and just salads to go along
tuna tataki. hmmmmmmm. screw it for being so delicious! it was a red tuna wrapped with seaweed coated with batter and deep fried. i ate it without any sauce or dressing. you know. this is a tips to feel and enjoy seafood like fish for instance is better to eat it JUST IT without any sidekick. you can actually literally taste the fresh, sweet taste of the juicy meat.
baby octopus is ready made i would guess because the taste was just the same. i could not distinguish it whether it was homemade or not.
yummy number 3
upper left is the chili tortilla. it was accompanied by mix cut vege and nachos chips. actually tortilla can be made by 2 ingredient by corn and flour. the corn is the nachos chips and the white tortilla is the flour-made one. the chili is very nice! very very very nice! very Mexican taste but little spicy. minced meat and the taste of tomato paste in it was to die for!.
the gado-gado was decent and nicely presented by them. nothing much to say.. ;)
the last one is the lamb cofta and i had it with chicken tikka and i forgot to snap the picture of the tikka i guess. fun fact for you guys is that the tikka is actually just like the tandoori but the different is tikka is boneless. just an ordinary cofta with minced lamb filling. nice and a perfect appetizer.
man at this rate i thing i'm going to get a high blood pressure thinking about the experience i had. oh yeah! the sin in made...
sin number 1
Sabayan Crepe
the first time i had it and i was told that it was from the Mediterranean an i'm not sure of which country. the crepe was just a normal batter crepe but the sauce is the magic touch to it. beating egg yolk and fresh cream with orange zest into it all together is just heavenly. citrus taste of cream based sauce, delightful!
sin number 2
Mix Melon Soup
this soup was phenomenon! the mix of various melons like watermelon, honeydew, papaya with splash of mango and orange juice and a touch of minty taste from the mint leaves is just divinely amusing. this also can be made as a fruit punch or a fruit cocktail. its just the matter of how you present it, at which section and with what to compliment of.
well that is pretty much what i had during my splendid dinner at Holiday Inn, Penang. with the warmth they giving its just so nice. keep up guys! thumbs up!
p/s: this just to give you a head start.. FOOD PORN!!
